About 2 years ago, we lost our 47-year-old son to suicide. Words cannot describe how devastating his loss is to us. Even more so, we cannot begin to understand how helpless and depressed he must have felt to end his own life.
The thought keeps coming back….If we had only known. We would have done anything to prevent losing him. I have heard the same from many of his friends and people with whom he worked. However, whether because of his hopelessness or not wanting to burden others, he did not share his desperation nor ask for help.
The purpose of this note is to say that, if you are considering taking your life, you must be carrying some heavy burdens and believe there is no way out. I am not in your shoes and do not claim to understand your situation. However, I have been in the “shoes” of folks around you who love you and know you. I have been in that situation. My hope is that you will reach out and share your troubles with someone you know who loves you or whom you respect. If that person realizes that you are contemplating taking your life, he or she will almost certainly help you to overcome your burdens or help you to find resources who can help you. THEY DO NOT WANT TO LOSE YOU. As I said above, we would have done anything.
Like everyone, you want a good life. So, why end your life? There are folks who will help….if they only know where you are in your desperation. Between those folks and resources on this blog there is hope.
